10 Dog Swimming Pools In Singapore To Beat The Heat

Just like humans, exercise is crucial for dogs to stay healthy. However, Singapore’s weather can be brutal and the default activities are limited to walking and playing fetch. Instead, why not try taking your pup for a swim the next time?

To make things easier, we’ve compiled a list of dog swimming pools in Singapore and arranged them according to locations 😁 Prices are included too!

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I teach my dog to swim?

All animals, including dogs, are naturally able to swim.

What if my dog is afraid of the water?

It’s normal for your dog to be shy or afraid during his first time. All it takes is a few sessions before he starts to gain confidence, feel comfortable and have fun.

If you’re unsure of how your pet will take to the waters, we recommend picking a swimming facility with trained staff to help and advise you on how to get him comfortable.

What do I need to bring to a dog swimming pool?

These are the items that you’ll typically need:

    • Vaccination records
    • Towel
    • Toys
    • Soap and shampoo

The checklist may differ depending on your pool’s regulations. Do enquire with your preferred swimming pool before making the trip down!

Can I feed my dog before swimming?

You’re advised to refrain from feeding your dog at least 3 hours before and 2 hours after swimming. Jumping into the water on a full stomach can result in gastric torsion, where there is a buildup of air in their stomach, and this condition can be life-threatening.

What should I do when we arrive at the dog swimming pool?

    It’s important that you

    • do not book a swimming session during their regular toilet times and
    • toilet your dog before the session

If your pet defecates in the pool, there will be a maintenance fee charged as it will have to be closed for sanitisation.

Do I have to rinse my dog after their swim?

Yes, you’re advised to rinse your dog after his swim especially if the water is chlorinated.

    Note!
When exposed to too much chlorine, your dog may experience redness and itching. While it’s generally safe for dogs to swim in chlorinated water, it’s best to hose them down afterwards.

Furthermore, drinking excessive amounts of chlorinated water can lead to nausea and vomiting. It’s recommended to provide fresh water for your pet outside the pool.

When should I avoid bringing my dog to the pool?

If your dog has any of the following conditions, it’s best to avoid bringing them to the pool.

    • Open or bleeding wounds
    • Tick or flea infection
    • Skin, ear or eye infections
    • Contagious conditions such as gastric upsets, kennel cough
    • Heart conditions
    • Epilepsy
    • Female dogs in heat

If you have a booking made, do call to reschedule your swim session! Additionally, you may want to call the facility ahead of your booking if you own a Scheduled Dog to enquire about their regulations as most pools don’t allow entry to these canines.

Bringing Your Dog for a Swim

It’s no secret that swimming is great for your pet’s physical health. It’s also an effective way for obese dogs to lose weight.

But did you know that 5 minutes of swimming for a dog is equivalent to a 5km run? Well, now you do! So why not consider bringing him for a swim next time?
